Being Decisive

by | Jun 3, 2018 | Corporate Grooming, Mentorship

When we see individuals making quick and to the point decisions, one thing that hits to the mind is-

“How is he so sure about this decision?”
It’s an obvious question for a person who is not in the shoes of that person. Every time a person is confronted with a situation, where he has to take a decision, there are ample of facts, figures, people, past experiences, capabilities, situations, etc. to be taken into consideration. For everyone who is seeing this happen, doubts on whether all the points have been appropriately considered or not. There is always a scope of doubt if all pros and cons are evaluated, and only then the decision taken will prove to be right.

Each time a person thinks that this is the best way and right decision that he could have taken; and moves ahead. There are instances where after a while or after some days the decision turns out to be a wrong or bad decision or say inappropriate decision, and then comes the time for a detailed analysis and brain storming on what should have been done and what should not have been done.

But let me tell you one thing, there is an easy way which many of the psychological theories work on.

A Regret Minimization Approach
A regret minimization approach helps to make a decision which can help in every way an individual can take tricky decisions with less effort.

Any decision which is life changing can be handled with a simple thought,

“Will I regret not trying this later at the age of eighty when I look back at my life?”

If yes, then I must take a decision to try a new change happen in life. If no, then it’s okay for a person to take a decision otherwise. In any case life should not face any regrets. Life should be full of experiences, which make you live it differently; and that’s the spice of a wonderful living.

Time-The next biggest thing
Another important aspect of decision making is ‘TIME’. A decision taken within time will help you take over all the benefits possible. A decision which is not taken on right time loses all its value and even if it turns out to be a safe decision, it may not always be of much help.

For a student, the best way to approach decision making is to follow a timely decision making and opt for an optimum approach to give your best in whatever you have decided. So make your decisions yourself so that you can own the responsibility of repercussions in life and learn to take better decisions day after day. A golden rule to decision making is that it should always be made by the person himself and not by others to drive it well.

An ideal way to handle decision making is to
-Accept all the available facts and figures to make a decision and
-Understand that at that point of time the decision was taken as rightly as possible with the available conditions and facts.

Because the world is a volatile territory and every moment there is change in facts and other important aspects and the decision might be proved to be bad just the next moment if the conditions change drastically. The best is to take a decision and accept it with ownership to face its pros and cons and keep correcting the approach to meet the decisions in future process of decision making.

Because –
“All you can do is, use your best brain and available facts to take a timely decision. Rest is just the journey to accept and keep learning in life’’.
